These taper point drills are designed specifically to pre-drill wood and plastics for the thread and shank of wood screws. Screw hole and countersink hole can also be drilled in one step with this drill when affixed with a Fuller countersink or counterbore tool - see photo and link below that help explain the Fuller System.
This type of drill has also been successfully used to cut through holes whenever breaking through the backside requires a clean edge too. The taper point drill breaks through gradually and produces clean edges on both sides.
These Fuller drills are great for use in a drill press or in hand-held equipment. They are made of high-speed steel to hold their sharp cutting edge longer and they cut very well in both hard and soft woods. They are made in standard fractional sizes to fit all types of countersinks and counterbores - with sizes and lengths to match most popular wood screws.
