Model 172B Close-Coupled Centrifugal Pump
These centrifugal pumps with rugged corrosion-resistant bronze construction and TEFC motors perform tough too with 18 gallons/minute output at 3460
RPM.
One of the outstanding features of this pump and motor unit is its compact size. Although small, it provides adequate motor power for pumping water, water solutions, and a wide range of commercial chemicals.
Oberdorfer centrifugal pumps have a single open-vane rotating impeller. Liquid enters at the center and is thrown outward radially by centrifugal force. The impeller is not in contact with other pump parts resulting in quiet, efficient, pumping action. The flow of a centrifugal pump can be conveniently controlled by a throttling valve in the discharge line without the need for a relief valve. In centrifugal pumps, the horsepower demand will decrease as the pressure increases. Maximum horsepower occurs with a wide open discharge.
Also due to generous internal clearances, these pumps can handle impurities in the liquid being pumped. These close-coupled pumps are compact and lightweight and feature Type 6A/6B mechanical shaft seals with Buna-N rubber components. Each uses a standard TEFC (Totally-Enclosed, Fan-Cooled) motor.
Long, trouble-free service life has made centrifugal pumps acceptable for industrial uses or wherever clean or contaminated liquid compatible with bronze is to be transferred or handled, including water, oil and some mild solvents. Key applications for these pumps include engine block temperature control, marine air-conditioning, radiator/heat exchanger circulation and baitwell circulation.
These pumps are not self-priming. They must be installed below the liquid level so that the liquid flows to the pump by gravity (flooded suction).
